A COSMIC EXPERIENCE

As product designers for Interface, my design partner Megan Tipsword and I keep close tabs on trends of all types. Color. Fashion. Culture. Design. If it’s a trend, we're tracking it! However, when developing our latest collection, we took a different approach – we looked to the night sky for inspiration. 

And we aren’t the only ones who love gazing at the stars. Society has a collective fascination with space. Whether you witnessed mankind’s first walk on the moon or just watched Star Trek or Star Wars, you probably enjoy a good space story, too.

I grew up hearing about the 1969 moon landing from my parents, and as a kid I often stared up at the stars, imagining what might be out there. Generations throughout history have pondered the same thing. Our Stellar Horizons collection embodies this sense of wonder. 

Translating Outer Space Into Carpet Tile

For pattern inspiration, we looked at images of meteors, galaxies, and even astronaut moon walks. We considered how metallic fibers could mimic twinkling constellations and shooting stars. Finally, after figuring out the right mix of machinery and materials, we created six impactful carpet tile styles – four from Interface, plus two statement-making options from FLOR®, our specialty design brand. 

Need a product for larger spaces? Meteor™, Cosmic Web™ and Moon Walk™ are great options for open areas. Want to infuse a touch of glamour? Stardust™ features silver and gold accents that dazzle. Looking for variation? Endless Orbit™ and Lunar Landing™ offer movement and texture.
