To better understand its environmental and health impacts, the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) conducted a comprehensive review of PVC across its full life cycle, including sourcing, manufacturing, use, recycling, and disposal.
The review found a clear case for supporting PVC products manufactured and managed in line with best practice production and end-of-life processes.
This work informed the GBCA’s criteria for Best Environmental Practice (BEP) PVC.
HIGHER STANDARDS. LOWER IMPACT.
Introduced in 2010, the GBCA’s Literature Review and Best Practice Guidelines for the Life Cycle of PVC Building Products has since evolved into BEP PVC v2.0. Now managed by Vinyl Council Australia, the updated guidelines set an even higher benchmark for transparency and environmental responsibility.
GREEN STAR RESPONSIBLE PRODUCTS FRAMEWORK
All Interface PVC products meet BEP PVC v2.0 criteria and are considered best practice under the GBCA’s Green Star Responsible Products Framework, which aims to drive supply chains toward:
Greater transparency
Reduced environmental impact
Progress toward net-zero carbon products
Circular economy outcomes
Choosing BEP PVC products supports a healthier, more resilient built environment while advancing more sustainable manufacturing. As a recyclable, low embodied-carbon material, BEP PVC supports circular design by reducing material impacts and enabling long-term resource recovery.
