As we considered a unique way to inspire designers with our skinny planks, we realized we needed a partner who could offer a new point of view. So we opted for a group of talented multi-media design students from Atlanta’s Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD). They were young and unfamiliar with our industry. Who better to give a fresh perspective?
We charged them with creating three to five videos from 30-90 seconds, each with a different story and a different aesthetic. Collaboration was key to the project’s success. Throughout the project students worked with our creative team, getting real world experience helping a client achieve its objectives through their talents.
The students became intimately familiar with all that is Interface—our carpet, our passion for design and innovation, and of course, our sustainability mission. After formal presentations of their initial ideas, the concepts were culled down to four. From there students worked in teams, taking advantage of each other’s particular skills and perspectives to create four dynamic and very inspiring videos.
Of course, we got more out of it than a few videos. We were energized by their enthusiasm and novel ideas and it gave us the opportunity to share our vision and mission with them. They are the next generation of design after all.
