Case study: Byggvesta, Sweden
Architect: Studio Stockholm
Project Size: 1000m2
Product: Touch of Timber
ByggVesta’s employees had expressed a strong desire to “feel at home" in their office, in the sense that home is the place where you feel safe and at peace. Using this notion of homeliness, the vision was to create a place so attractive that employees wished to stay nowhere else during working hours.
Unlike offices, almost every home in Sweden has wooden floors. Aiming to create a home away from home, Interface introduced textile carpet tile line Touch of Timber to this project. This enabled Interface to bring the homely feeling of a wooden floor into an office space, yet retain the acoustic benefits of a carpeted floor. The biophilic features of the product also contributed to a sense of peace and quiet at work.
”The end result has been above and beyond expectations. Once we laid eyes on Touch of Timber we had the idea of placing the tiles in a herringbone pattern to create the feeling of a wooden floor. Almost all of ByggVesta’s staff now enjoy lunch together, which is not only nice but also enables natural communication between different work groups and helps solve operational issues. This has resulted in an environment for employees at ByggVesta to feel comfortable and at home“ Boel Allende, Architect.
