A Strong Heritage

Interface began life in 1973, when our founder Ray Anderson saw the need for more versatile flooring in the US office market. In 1987, we acquired Heuga, the Dutch manufacturer of the original carpet tile and the leading modular carpet brand in Europe and Australia. Before long, Interface was the world leader in modular flooring.

Since then, a workplace revolution has put creativity ahead of efficiency and productivity. Spaces are designed to foster collaboration, and to create a sense of identity. This has a huge impact on our products and the way we make them.

Many of our original ‘classics’, such as Superflor and Heuga 727, have set industry standards. Some are still going strong and are being embraced by a new generation. We keep adding to our heritage with recent introductions such as Urban Retreat®, World Woven® and Level Set®.

Mission Zero

1994 is another milestone in our history. Founder Ray Anderson publicly committed to sustainability, through the Mission Zero® pledge, to eliminate the company’s negative impact on the environment by 2020. 20 years later, we have achieved great results, and are working hard to meet the great challenges that are still ahead. And the sustainable mindset is an integral part of the Interface culture, thanks to Ray’s legacy

Experience the history of modular flooring in the Awarehouse

Located in Scherpenzeel, the Netherlands, at one of the world's most sustainable carpet manufacturing sites, the Awarehouse is a real life example of sustainable construction and design.

Once the manufacturing site for some of the very first carpet tiles, this building has been transformed into an innovative, multi-functional space hosting exhibitions, workshops, conferences and meetings.
