Interface’s Urban Retreat Wins Best of NeoCon
Interface receives Best of NeoCon honors for its new Urban Retreat modular carpet tile collection.
The proven performance and flexibility of Interface modular carpet tile extends beyond award winning design and easy maintenance. Our products can enhance the consumer experience in a variety of retail environments.
Observing the organic rhythms of a leaf-strewn forest floor inspired us to devise i2, an innovative advancement in modular carpet tile design. Rather than make each carpet tile the same, they vary in patterning and coloring within one style and colorway. Learn the advantages of i2 carpet tile over broadloom and other carpet tile products.
Net Effect is a carpet tile collection that honors the ocean not only in its aesthetic references but also in a unique and tangible way through a project called Net-Works™. Net Effect One is a collection of three textures in 50cm squares that, when placed side by side, describes the precise moment when the sea foams into the shore. Net Effect Two is a collection of three products in our new 25cm X 1m skinny plank format that captures the fluidity of water even in linear patterns with expanding and contracting rhythms.

Introducing Net Effect
Interface’s exclusive product designer, David Oakey, owner of David Oakey Designs, along with co-innovators from around the globe, has brought forth all of the ingredients necessary for true synchronistic design – creating a beautiful product line, Net Effect, while simultaneously empowering a community and restoring our oceans and seas.

The Ripple Effect
What if we could build a truly inclusive business model – buying discarded nets from local fishermen – giving them extra income – and cleaning up the beaches and oceans at the same time?”
Every phase of an Interface carpet tile’s lifecycle—from harvesting raw materials to manufacturing, shipping, vacuuming and end-of-life recycling—results in the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that contribute to global warming. Through intelligent product design and improving our raw materials, we have reduced our average product’s carbon footprint by 34% since 2008, and across our business we have the lowest carbon footprint product in the industry.
In 1994, Ray had his legendary “spear in the chest” epiphany. He shook the foundations of the petroleum-intensive carpet manufacturing industry by declaring that Interface was committed to becoming the world’s first environmentally sustainable—and, ultimately, restorative—company.
Intersept®, our proprietary preservative, is permanently incorporated into the primary backing of all our modular carpet tiles manufactured in America, as well as our recommended adhesives. It offers protection from the bacteria and mold that can affect not only the life of the carpet but also indoor environmental quality.

Redesigning Our Products
We challenge assumptions and bring elegant approaches and innovative technology to the design of modular carpet. By posing different questions, we developed a more holistic view of the impacts our products and processes have on the planet. This has allowed us to be more strategic in minimizing—and ultimately eliminating—the environmental impacts associated with our products.

Adobe’s leaders enlisted architects from Valerio Dewalt Train’s Palo Alto office to transform its spaces to reflect the forward-thinking solutions it delivers to its customers. The results exude an arty-techno quality that aptly resonates with Adobe’s philosophy and aligns with its creative image in the business world.
Interface aspires to be the proving ground for a new industrial revolution. By demonstrating that there is a better way to a bigger, more legitimate profit, we offer the world an undeniably improved business model that can serve as a paradigm for others to embrace.
Biophilia is the theory that humans have a biological need to connect with nature and that this connection affects our well-being, productivity and relationships. It gave rise to biophilic design, an offshoot of the sustainability movement that seeks to integrate nature and structure, even in the most urban spaces. At Interface, we use design to bridge the gap between these seemingly divergent environments.

IIDEX 2013 Net Effect Collection
Carpet tile manufacturer Interface introduces a new modular carpet collection, Net Effect™, is inspired both by the ocean’s life-giving power and its plight – marine life and habitats that are endangered by discarded fishing nets, acidification, over-fishing, pollution and climate change.
ESD Carpet Tile
Choosing the right ESD flooring can be confusing, even if you‘ve narrowed your decision down to carpet tile. There‘s static conductive, anti-static and static dissipative carpet tile with a few variations of each. What‘s the difference and what do you really need?
At Interface, we live where we work. This may seem fundamental, but it makes us unique in the carpet industry. To be global in thought and action—with outposts and people on the ground in six continents—is truly extraordinary.
Our innovative backing systems are responsible for the enhanced performance and durability of our modular carpet tiles. They’re what enable our carpet tile to resist moisture and be moved and updated with ease. Learn more about our GlasBac, GlasBacRE, NexStep, Graphlar and Graphlex backings.

Shape Your Floor with De Stijl
Looking back at historical design movements, one style struck a chord with hospitality product stylist Sarah Pelham in relation to Interface Hospitality’s product dimensions—De Stijl. De Stijl was popular from 1917-1931 and was built on the geometric principle of straight lines, squares and rectangles. Interface Hospitality has developed a collection of square and rectangular products that work together as building blocks that allow you to create your own floor using a combination of sizes.

So we opted for a group of talented multi-media design students from Atlanta’s Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD). They were young and unfamiliar with our industry. Who better to give a fresh perspective?
