Interface, the global manufacturer of modular carpet tile and a thought leader in sustainability, has been awarded LEED-CI Platinum Certification for its new Chicago showroom. The company debuted the 9,000-square-foot space at 345 N. Wells this past June at NeoCon, and helping to boost its LEED score is the fact that the building itself is LEED certified. Also adding points is the incorporation of an efficient lighting design that utilizes daylight and drops lighting usage to 35 percent below base line. New furniture specified for the space is FSC-certified, contains recycled content, and was locally sourced, while several vintage lounge furnishings represent a commitment to repurposing. Millwork also throughout either was repurposed or, if new, is FSC-certified. Other details contributing to the USGBC’s highest level of certification are a reduced water usage system at 40% below base line, Energy Star-rated appliances and equipment, and adjacency to a key public transportation hub.
