Healthy Conversations: Top Trends in Design for Senior Living – Part Two

Inspired by a series of panel discussions called Healthy Conversations, which focused on trends in the design of senior living facilities and was sponsored by Contract magazine in partnership with Interface and Universal Fibers, several experts offered thoughts on how this market segment will evolve in the years ahead. With a tsunami of Baby Boomers poised to enter these facilities in the coming decades, we asked four of the panelists—Laurie Butler, associate principal of Perkins Eastman in Pittsburgh; Dana Wollschlager, former director of real estate development for Ecumen, a senior living operator and developer in Minneapolis; Kristen Kostka, manager of design and renovation for Senior Lifestyle, a developer and operator in Chicago; and David Dillard, principal of D2 Architecture in Dallas—for their projections of top trends in the years ahead. The list of predictions that follows comprises the second part of a two-part forecast on the design of senior living environments in the future.
